We love when a space offers dual functions, and a bench with cushion offers just that. The cushion of a wooden bench gives comfort while sitting and also adds a pop of visual appeal to your plain bench seating. Use patterns and trendy colors for the ultimate statement piece.
- Measure bench to see how long you need your bench cushion to be
- Cut plywood in the length and size of your cushion. Using plywood on the bottom of your cushion is a good foundation for your cushion so that when people sit on it, the cushion will remain sturdy due to the plywood foundation.
- Cut the poly foam with a serrated knife to fit on top of your wood.
- Use wood glue to adhere foam to wood.
- Once the glue is dry and the foam is secured to the wood, cover the foam with batting and trim to fit.
- With staple gun, secure batting to the back/bottom of the plywood. Be sure to firmly pull so that it is smooth.
- Lay batted wood face down against fabric for covering.
- Pull the fabric tightly and staple to the wood. Smooth and continue to staple until fabric is secure.
- Fold corners and staple down for security. Folding like a gift is the easiest way because we all know how to fold gifts!
- Trim any excess fabric and sit atop your wooden bench!
