Tripping over toys, shoes, dishes in the sink- the struggle is all too real. The good news is your situation isn’t completely hopeless. By focusing on a few important areas, you can turn your house around.
De-clutter
One of the very best things you can do is eliminate extra stuff. Figure out what really matters and get rid of everything else. Once this is accomplished, be careful about what you add. If you’re not going to eat it or off it, or sleep on it, sit on it, wear it, read it or hang it on the wall do NOT buy it!
Exercise patience, because getting rid of things takes time. While you are decluttering (or thinking about resisting it) you can create some basic organization in a few key areas that will alleviate a LOT of the daily stress, if not make it disappear entirely. These are the top areas below.
Eating – Goodness, it’s a chore in itself! Make a list; go shopping; haul it home; cook; clean up after, and then do it over and over again. It’s no wonder we feel stressed. Meal planning is essential! For breakfast, figure out the healthiest, best options that fit your family’s tastes and schedule. When it comes to lunches, pre-packing is the way to go. There are tons of great recipes for jar salads, and other easy to pack yummies for taking to work. If there are kids in the house, turn over the decisions on lunches to them!
Refrigerator – A good way to keep your fridge clean is using your shopping schedule. Every time you make a run to the store, scan the fridge and toss what needs to go. A quick wipe down inside and out isn’t out of the question either.
Flat Surfaces – This is generally the crux of most organizational problems. If you have a kitchen table, island, and children- you understand. Clearing these surfaces of clutter like mail, notes from school, and the like will allow freedom from a mess and give you those spaces back for actual use.
Trying these tips will completely ease many of your everyday cleaning issues. Make a list or chart to keep track of your progress, you’ll get there.
