So, you have a great space but not enough natural light coming in? Without having to do a new renovation or purchase new lighting fixtures, take a look at these ideas to brighten up your space on a budget!

  1. Mirrors/Reflective Decals

Mirrors are not only for the vain. They are perfect for reflecting light in a dark space. They also give the illusion of space in small rooms. Instead of purchasing an expensive set of mirrors/decals from your décor stores, find a quaint antique, resale or thrift store. They have the best bargains for unique pieces. Shop different sizes and create some wall art to add décor to the wall.
  1. Use ‘light-colored’ furniture

Avoid decorating with dark pieces of furniture if you have a dark space. Add light colors and reflective accent pieces that will catch and reflect light. Light furniture and reflective accents create contrast and help brighten up your room.
  1. Lamps/Lighting

Add floor lamps and light lampshades in pastel colors. Avoid dark or heavy lampshades as these block and dampen the light in any room. Try this unique idea for a floor lamp instead of a traditional floor lamp.
  1. Candles

The old traditional candle is always a winner. You can also use scented candles to create lovely aromas into your space. Look for candle holders that reflect the candle light into the room.

If your space has a window, you’re in luck. Use light color blinds instead of curtains. Heavy curtains drain light out of the room and make the room appear smaller. If you are a DIY pro, make a London shade from see-through fabric as seen in the image. It will soften the room and create privacy without draining all the natural light out the room.
