The inspiration behind the chair was to make something exclusive that has never been done before:
“UFO was born after a comparison was made between the standard concept for something to sit down on in a stable/fixed way, and the possibility of making a “3d” rocking design. The solution was the spherical cap, one ground point touching to start developing UFO. At the end we reached perfection in stability, rocking, swinging and rotating, ensuring that the chair will be very comfortable, easy and extremely light to move, thanks to the one-piece carbon fiber body,” explains Agnoletto.
And for those thinking why the name UFO, Agnoletto explains that the shape of the UFO was born from thinking around its function, obtaining less ground friction as possible. Similar to the shell of the first space capsules for NASA’s Mercury and Apollo projects in the 1950s. These capsules needed a shell to resist the impact with the atmosphere when coming back to the earth, and in this case, friction means heat and burn. The consideration was similar for this chair in relationship with the ground, and with a one-piece carbon fiber body, they managed to create an item that the world had never seen before.
